Imagine driving in your car cruising down the highway, and you reach to grab your bottle of water. You happen to look over in the passenger seat where you see the web of a spider going from your coat to the chair. And, before your heart has a chance to jump out your chest, the little person in the background yells “A SPIDER!”
Now, for those of you who know me, you know that I am TERRIFIED of spiders. But, there was some solace that I received knowing it was in the back and not the front. But, my niece on the other hand, she was out of her skin scared. And, again, before I could react, here comes this other little voice “CALM DOWN! Calm down Kenzie! It’s Ok!” I asked if she wanted a napkin, and she said “Yes.
I handed her the napkin, and she bravely reached over and grabbed the spider in the napkin, squishing and killing it. She then put it in a bag and tied the bag up. CRISIS ADVERTED!! Honestly, I thought I was going to have to pull over and tackle this thing. And, I had NO IDEA how I was going to do it because again, I AM TERRIFIED of spiders!!! But, I didn’t have to worry about it because Munchkin took care if it for me, so I could continue on my track without fear.
And, then this thought popped into my head. Here I am on the path to my destination and suddenly, the evidence of an attack appeared. But, before I could react or even let it sink in, someone stepped in and consumed my emotion alerting me to the position of the attacker, putting me now on the defense. But, before I could come up with a plan of action of how to get rid of it, SOMEONE ELSE stepped in and neutralized the problem. It was taken care of, and I didn’t have to do a thing but keep moving forward.
And, is this not what God does for us?! Allow us to see the evidence of an eminent danger, but send someone (something) to let us know where the threat is, and before we can even think how to take action, someone (something) else will come and take care of it!
Can you imagine what would have happened if I allowed the presence of the web to grip me with fear? If I had become fixated on the web and the owner? If I turned my head to figure out where it was? I could have caused more damage, swerved off the road, delayed my trip, or worse ended it altogether, all because I allowed the presence of a threat to paralyze me with fear. Sometimes, we make matters worse when we take our eyes off our destinations and turn our heads. All we have to do is keep moving forward, and let God fight!
