1 Samuel 1:6 – 8
“Her rival used to provoke her severely, to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. Her husband Elkanah said to her, ‘Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?'”
Wait a minute…
So Hannah is being taunted by her sister-wife, the woman who had all their husband’s namesake, and he knew?!?!?!
He knew this other woman was making her life miserable?!
He knew her self-esteem and worth was in great turmoil due to her barrenness?!?!?
Now, in all fairness, maybe he didn’t know about the teasing.
Maybe he didn’t hear the petty remarks…
Maybe he really did just think her distress came from being unable to have children…
Maybe he turned a blind eye…
Maybe he refused to acknowledge it…
Maybe that’s why he gave her double…
It was like “double for her trouble!”
But, even still, he sees the woman he loves suffering and he responds with the “ain’t I enough?!”
So he knows her pain…
He knows her sorrow…
He knows her struggle, but his solution is to offer himself…
A him she has to share with another woman! 😳
He knew and that’s his solution?! 🤦🏾♀️
